Impact of globalization in Inter Cultural Communication

Intercultural communication between people is an integral attribute of the human society development, throughout the history. It is inevitable even for a single living sole in the mother earth to ignore the communication between cultures, especially in the globalized world. It will be most appropriate if I clarify the words globalization and intercultural communication before reflecting upon my understanding about the above mentioned question

According to Fons Trompenaar globalization means disappearance of boarder between nations and no longer constrained by distance. O. Kovbasynk stats that intercultural communication is process when a member of one culture produce a message for consumption by member a another culture
As now we have a clear picture about globalization and intercultural communication, I think it will be easier for me to reflect upon what I understood about the impact globalization make on studying intercultural communication. Due to globalization, Intercultural communication has become art in modern political and economic arena. Everybody is eager to learn the cultural behaviors and believes of other cultures. Learning other cultures and mastering the art of intercultural communication has many benefits in the current world. For an example if you want to open a multinational company, it is very important to learn the cultural practices and the language of the target group. In the last Professional English lecture, our senior lecturer was explaining about making successful presentation. In that lecture he mentioned an incident happened in China to Pepsi Cola Company, which resulted in heavy loss for the company. The motto of the Pepsi was “Come alive with Pepsi”. But when the local distributers translated the motto into Chinese it said “Drinking Pepsi will revive your dead ancestors”.
I think I could quote another example from the current world. USA has a vast and most advanced military in the world. It has a division named Pacific Military Command Centre which consist of only two ships equipped with SEAL (A type of military oops), Fighter planes and so on. This command centre alone can engage in the war with any country. On the other hand Norway, a Scandinavian country, which does not has its military division. But when we consider USA and Norway in context to the peace procedures of the world, Norway is contributing far more than that of USA. This is because Norway is employed with an elite panel of diplomats who can handle any intercultural peace talks.

Although we have ample of examples lying around us, I am being forced to limit it to the above two, as the limitation of the word is considered. In conclusion I have gained a clearer image that globalization and intercultural communication are intertwined to gather as the development in one develop the other.
